The God who numbers the hairs on our heads is also the Father to the fatherless. He knows each waiting child by name and affirms their value with great love and compassion throughout Scripture. The following three verses give us a glimpse into his heart for the fatherless and how he calls us to respond:
  1. The Bible speaks of standing up for those who have no one else to defend them. Proverbs 31:8-9 puts it this way: “Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute. Open your mouth, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy.” We are called to speak up for those who need an advocate. Through Show Hope’s Advocate program, you can be a financial and educational advocate for the world’s waiting children! As a Show Hope Advocate, you can raise funds that can transform an orphan’s future. Through your efforts, you can also educate others about the worldwide orphan crisis. Becoming a Show Hope Advocate involves three simple steps. First, decide what sort of event you’d like to put together. Then, choose a date for your event, as well as a fundraising goal. Finally, register your project! Show Hope will provide you with resources and materials you will need to help make your event a success and you’ll be answering the call to speak up for waiting children around the world!
  2. James 1:27 says, “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.” We are called to become personally involved in the lives of waiting children. Supporting Show Hope’s four Care Centers in China is a tangible way to care for orphans in distress. Show Hope’s flagship Special Care Center, Maria’s Big House of Hope, is in Luoyang; the other Care Centers are in Zhengzhou, Xinyang, and Jiaozuo. These centers provide life-giving medical care and love to orphans with pressing medical needs who would otherwise find it very difficult to receive the care they so desperately need. The first and foremost way you can help these precious children is to become a Show Hope Sponsor! Your financial support reaches across the globe to empower the nurturing hands of our nannies, nurses, and doctors to provide the highest level of care for these precious children.
  3. God cares about our giving. Beginning in the Old Testament, he gives his people instructions on how to use their resources to his glory. Deuteronomy 14:29 says, “And the Levite, because he has no portion or inheritance with you, and the sojourner, the fatherless, and the widow, who are within your towns, shall come and eat and be filled, that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands that you do.” Here, we see that God calls His people to specifically remember orphans in their giving.

As you consider your role in caring for orphans, remember that God is with you every step of the journey! Philippians 1:6 says, “And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”
